Cocktail Base

Method

Cocktail Base

1

Muddle Fruit and Herbs

In a mixing glass or shaker, place the fresh blackberries and mint leaves. Add the simple syrup and lime juice. Using a muddler, gently muddle 6 blackberries and 6–8 mint leaves until the berries are crushed and the mint is fragrant. Avoid over-muddling the mint to prevent bitterness.

2

Add Bourbon

Add 2 oz Maker's Mark bourbon to the muddled blackberry-mint mixture. Fill the shaker with ice, cap, and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.

Finish & Garnish

3

Strain and Serve

Fill a rocks glass or short tumbler with crushed ice (about 1 cup). Double-strain the shaken mixture into the glass over the crushed ice to remove seeds and mint bits. If you prefer more fruit texture, use a single strain.

4

Top with Ginger Ale

Top the drink with approximately 2 oz ginger ale (adjust to taste). Gently stir once with a bar spoon to incorporate while preserving carbonation.

5

Garnish

Thread 1 blackberry onto a cocktail pick and place it on the rim or float it on top. Slap a mint sprig between your palms to release oils and nestle it into the drink as a garnish. Serve with a short straw.
