Seasoning & finishing
Method
Prep & bacon
Slice tomato into 2 even slices and cut 3 thin rings from the red onion. Wash and dry lettuce leaf.
Toast & melt cheese
Butter one side of each bread slice with about half of the unsalted butter (use remaining butter if you prefer more). Place buttered-side down in a clean skillet over medium-low heat.
If you prefer, toast bread under a broiler or in a toaster and then assemble; toasted bread should be warm and lightly golden.
Assemble sandwich
Spread mayonnaise on the unbuttered side of one bread slice and Dijon mustard on the unbuttered side of the other slice.
On the mayo-spread slice, layer the seasoned avocado slices in a single layer, then arrange the turkey breast slices evenly on top (about 6 oz).
Top the turkey with the warm Swiss cheese so it adheres, then place the crisp bacon (3 slices) across the cheese.
If you like the sandwich extra warm and the cheese more melted, return the closed sandwich to the skillet over medium-low heat and press gently, cooking 1–2 minutes per side until golden and warmed through.
Finish & serve
Remove sandwich from heat and let rest 1 minute. Cut in half on the diagonal and serve immediately with extra pickles or chips.
