Sandwich - choose one (Salami, Turkey, or Ham)

Method

Sandwich - choose one (Salami, Turkey, or Ham)

1

Prepare bread

Place two slices of sandwich bread on a clean work surface. Spread 1 teaspoon of butter or mayonnaise evenly on one side of one slice (this will be the inside of the sandwich).

2

Assemble sandwich

On the slice with spread, place one slice of cheddar cheese. Choose the protein: place 3 slices of salami OR 3 slices of turkey OR 3 slices of ham on top of the cheese. Add the lettuce leaf and two tomato slices (omit tomato if child prefers). Top with the second bread slice, spread-side down.

3

Finish

If desired, trim the crusts for a typical kids' presentation and cut the sandwich in half diagonally or into fun shapes with a cookie cutter. Place on plate.

Sides

4

Rinse and pat dry baby carrots. Core and slice the apple into thin wedges (or rinse grapes). Arrange 6 baby carrots and the apple slices on the plate beside the sandwich. Place 2 tablespoons of ranch or yogurt dip in a small ramekin for dipping.

Snack or treat

5

Measure about 1 ounce of goldfish crackers or one small cookie and place in a small compartment or cup to keep them separate from moist items.

Drink

6

Pour 1 cup of apple juice or milk into a child-size cup. Serve with the meal. For safety, ensure the drink is not too cold and supervise young children while eating.
