Method
Preparation of Oysters
Clean the Oysters
Thoroughly rinse the fresh oysters under cold running water to remove any sand or debris. Shuck the oysters and place them on a plate.
Prepare the Breading Station
In three separate shallow dishes, place the all-purpose flour in the first dish, the beaten eggs mixed with buttermilk in the second, and a mixture of cornmeal and Mr. & Mrs. Crab Special Seasoning in the third.
Frying the Oysters
Heat the Oil
In a large, deep skillet or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Ensure there is enough oil to fully submerge the oysters.
Bread the Oysters
Take each oyster and coat it in the flour, shaking off the excess. Then dip it into the egg and buttermilk mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, coat it in the cornmeal and seasoning mixture.
Serving
Plate the Dish
Arrange the fried oysters on a serving plate. Serve them hot with cocktail sauce and tartar sauce on the side.
Add a Side
Choose your preferred side such as French fries, coleslaw, or a side salad and serve alongside the oysters.
