Method
Dough Preparation
Make the Dough
In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Cut in the unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add Water
Gradually add cold water, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough gently on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
Chill the Dough
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow it to rest.
Filling Preparation
Cook the Filling
In a large skillet over medium heat, add ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
Cool the Filling
Remove from heat and let the filling cool completely before assembling the empanadas.
Empanada Assembly
Roll Out the Dough
On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/8 inch thickness. Cut out circles using a 4-5 inch round cutter.
Fill the Empanadas
Place a spoonful of the cooled filling onto one half of each dough circle. Be careful not to overfill.
Seal the Empanadas
Fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape. Press the edges together to seal and crimp with a fork for extra security.
Baking
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Bake the Empanadas
Place the empanadas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
