1. Chill and prepare
Chill the sparkling wine and orange juice in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving. If using whole oranges, squeeze fresh orange juice and strain to remove pulp if you prefer a smoother drink. Chill flutes in the fridge or freezer for a few minutes if desired.
2. Measure and pour
Pour 1/2 cup (120 ml) of chilled orange juice into a champagne flute. Hold the flute at a slight angle to reduce foam when adding sparkling wine.
3. Top with sparkling wine
Slowly pour 1 cup (240 ml) of chilled sparkling wine into the flute over the back of a spoon or down the side of the glass to preserve bubbles and minimize overflow. The standard ratio is roughly 2 parts sparkling wine to 1 part orange juice; adjust to taste.
4. Optional sweetness or liqueur
If you prefer a sweeter mimosa or a flavor boost, add a splash (about 1/2 tsp) of simple syrup or 1/4 tsp of orange liqueur, then gently stir once with a bar spoon to combine. Be gentle to avoid losing carbonation.
5. Garnish and serve
Garnish the rim of the flute with an orange slice or a thin orange twist. Serve immediately while cold and bubbly.
