Method

Base drink

1

Prepare flavor base

If making simple syrup, combine equal parts sugar and water, heat gently until sugar dissolves, then cool. Measure 2 tablespoons of simple syrup (or substitute 1 teaspoon of neutral zero-calorie sweetener for sugarfree).

2

In a chilled mixing glass combine 1 cup carbonated water and 2 tablespoons simple syrup (or 1 tsp sweetener for sugarfree). Stir gently to mix — do not vigorously stir to avoid losing carbonation.

3

Add 1 teaspoon citric acid solution (or 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice) to give acidity and brightness. Stir gently.

4

Add caffeine: if using food‑grade anhydrous caffeine solution, add 50 mg worth (measured per supplier instructions). If you prefer a natural option, add 1–2 tablespoons of strong brewed coffee concentrate (cooled).

5

Add taurine: dissolve 500 mg taurine powder into a small amount of warm water and stir into the mixture. If you do not have taurine, omit or substitute with additional inositol as desired. Add 50 mg inositol and stir to combine.

Flavor & color (choose one)

6

Regular (classic flavor)

Add 1 teaspoon berry flavor concentrate and a very small drop of red food coloring. Stir gently to incorporate. Taste and adjust: add up to another 1/4 teaspoon flavor if needed.

7

Sugarfree

Use the neutral zero-calorie sweetener (1 teaspoon) in place of simple syrup. Add 1 teaspoon berry flavor (or a blend of citrus/berry to mimic the original). Add food coloring as desired. Stir gently and taste; adjust sweetener amount to preference.

8

Tropical

Add 1 teaspoon tropical flavor concentrate (mango/passionfruit/pineapple blend) and a small drop of yellow food coloring to give a tropical hue. Stir gently and taste; add up to 1/4 teaspoon more flavor if desired.

Finish & serve

9

Fill a tall glass with 1 cup ice (optional). Carefully pour the flavored carbonated mixture over the ice. Stir once gently to chill and combine without losing fizz.

10

Garnish with a lime wedge if desired. Serve immediately cold.

Notes: This is a homemade approximation of an energy drink. Adjust caffeine, taurine, and sweetener amounts to taste and personal tolerance. If preparing for others, clearly label if containing caffeine/taurine.
