Method

Cocktail

1

Prepare espresso

Brew a fresh shot of espresso (about 1 oz) immediately before making the cocktail so it's hot and aromatic. If you don't have an espresso machine, use very strong brewed coffee concentrated to about 1 oz.

2

Chill glass

Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer or fill with ice water to chill while you make the cocktail.

3

Combine ingredients

Add 2 oz Ketel One vodka, 1 oz Kahlúa, 0.5 oz Caffè Borghetti, 1 oz hot espresso, and 0.25 oz cane sugar simple syrup to a cocktail shaker.

4

Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker about two-thirds full with ice (approximately 1 cup). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds. Vigorous shaking with hot espresso will both chill the drink and create a rich, frothy crema on top.

5

Strain

Discard the ice or water from the chilled glass. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass using a Hawthorne and a fine mesh strainer to catch small ice shards and ensure a silky texture.

Garnish & serve

6

Garnish the frothy surface with 3 whole coffee beans arranged in the center. Serve immediately.
