Method
Cocktail
Build and stir
Add 2 oz Maker's 46 bourbon, 0.5 oz Maraska Nocino (chocolate/green walnut liqueur), 0.25 oz Liber & Co. demerara syrup, and 3 dashes chocolate bitters into a mixing glass.
Add ice and stir
Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes. Stir gently and continuously for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full turns) until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted (~20–25% dilution by eye/feeling).
Garnish & Finish
Express orange oil
Take an orange peel and, over the prepared cocktail, hold it with the outer skin facing down and give it a firm squeeze to express the oils across the surface of the drink. Rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the glass.
Optional chocolate and cherry
If using, shave about 1 tsp of dark chocolate over the top of the drink and optionally drop a Luxardo or brandied cherry into the glass for a dessert accent.
Serve immediately and enjoy. The chocolate walnut liqueur adds nutty, chocolaty notes layered with the caramel/deep spice of Maker's 46 and the dark sugar richness of demerara syrup; chocolate bitters reinforce the theme.
