Method

Cocktail

1

Prepare glass and sugar

If using a sugar cube: place the cane sugar cube in a rocks glass, add ~0.25 oz (a bar spoon) of water, then add 3 dashes Angostura bitters and muddle until the sugar is mostly dissolved and you have a fragrant paste. If using simple syrup: add 0.25 oz simple syrup and 3 dashes Angostura bitters directly to the rocks glass and stir to combine.

2

Add spirits and bitters

Add 2 oz Bulleit Bourbon and 1 dash orange bitters to the glass. Stir gently with a bar spoon about 15–20 seconds to combine flavors and slightly chill the mixture.

3

Add ice

Place one large, clear 'fat' ice cube into the glass. The cube should be large enough to melt slowly and dilute the drink slowly.

4

Final stir and garnish

Stir once or twice more (5–10 seconds) to bring the drink together around the ice. Express the orange peel over the glass by holding it skin-side down and giving it a firm twist to release the oils, then wipe the rim with the peel and drop it into the glass as a garnish.

5

Serve immediately and enjoy.

Optional (if using cane sugar cube)

6

If you used a sugar cube, ensure no large sugar granules remain — if needed, press and swirl with the muddler until integrated before adding bourbon.
