Method
Preparation and Brewing
Heat water
Heat the water until it reaches about 175–185°F (80–85°C). If you don't have a thermometer, bring water to a simmer and remove from heat immediately; avoid a full rolling boil to prevent bitterness.
Warm teapot or cup
Optional but recommended: pour a small amount of the hot water into the teapot or cup, swirl to warm, then discard that water. This helps maintain brewing temperature.
Pour water over tea
Pour the heated water over the tea leaves or bag, ensuring they are fully submerged.
Steep
Steep the tea for 2–3 minutes for a light, fresh flavor. For slightly stronger flavor, steep up to 3½ minutes. Avoid steeping longer than 4 minutes to prevent astringency and bitterness.
Remove leaves or bag
Remove the tea bag or strain out the loose leaves immediately after steeping to stop extraction.
Serve
Pour the brewed green tea into cups and enjoy hot. If you prefer iced green tea, allow brewed tea to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until cold and serve over ice.
