Classic Coke (single serving)
If preparing from syrup (home soda maker or bar style)
Method
Classic Coke (single serving)
Serve from bottle or can
Chill a 12 fl oz can or bottle of Coca‑Cola in the refrigerator until cold (ideally 2–4 °C). Fill a highball or pint glass with 6 ice cubes. Pour the chilled Coca‑Cola gently into the glass over the ice to preserve carbonation. Optionally squeeze a lime wedge over the drink and drop the wedge in for a hint of citrus. Serve immediately with a straw or stirring spoon.
From syrup or concentrate (home soda maker or bar style)
Prepare carbonated water
If using a soda maker, carbonate cold filtered water according to the manufacturer's instructions. Aim for moderate carbonation (about 3–4 volumes CO2). Measure 12 fl oz (about 355 ml) of the chilled carbonated water and keep it cold.
Mix syrup and water
In a chilled glass filled with 6 ice cubes, add 1.5 tablespoons of cola syrup or concentrate. Slowly pour 12 fl oz of the chilled carbonated water into the glass over the back of a spoon or down the side to minimize foaming and loss of carbonation. Stir gently once with a bar spoon or stirrer to combine—do not vigorously stir.
Finish and serve
Optionally squeeze a lime wedge over the drink and drop the wedge in for a citrus accent. Serve immediately while cold and effervescent.
