Method

Prepare Glass and Garnish

1

Chill and Ice

Place a highball or stemmed glass in the freezer for 5 minutes or fill the glass with ice cubes while you prepare other ingredients to ensure the drink stays cold.

2

If using lemon or lime slices, thinly slice and set aside. Lightly bruise the mint sprig between your palms if using to release its aroma.

Mixing the Drink

3

In a small measuring jug or pitcher, combine the fresh lemon juice (1 tbsp), fresh lime juice (1 tbsp), and simple syrup or agave (1 tsp) if you want a slightly sweeter, brighter flavor. Stir briefly to combine.

4

Add the chilled carbonated lemon-lime soda (2 cups) to the jug. If you prefer a less sweet, lighter soda, add the cold sparkling water (1/2 cup) instead of part of the soda. Stir gently once to combine — avoid vigorous stirring to preserve carbonation.

5

If using, add 1/2 tsp lemon or lime zest to the mixture and gently fold it in with a spoon to release oils.

Assemble and Serve

6

Discard any ice used to chill the glass if desired and fill the glass with fresh ice cubes (about 1 cup).

7

Pour the mixed Sprite and citrus mixture over the ice. Pour slowly down the side of the glass to minimize fizzing and overflow.

8

Garnish with 2 thin lemon or lime slices and the bruised mint sprig. Optionally give the mint a light slap and tuck it into the glass for aroma.

9

Serve immediately with a straw or stirring spoon. Stir gently before drinking if garnish or syrup settled.
