Cocktail Base

Method

Prepare Coffee

1

Brew and cool espresso

Brew a double shot (about 2 oz) of espresso. Allow it to cool slightly at room temperature for 5–10 minutes, or chill in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes. If you want to speed cooling, pour into a shallow dish to cool faster. For best texture, use espresso chilled but not icy.

2

Optional coffee ice cubes

If using coffee ice cubes, prepare them at least 6 hours ahead by freezing leftover brewed coffee in an ice cube tray. Use these in place of some or all of the water ice to avoid diluting coffee flavor.

Make the Frozen Martini

3

Combine ingredients in blender

Add the cooled espresso, vodka, coffee liqueur, simple syrup, and the crushed ice (and coffee ice cubes if using) to a blender. Measure ingredients precisely for balance: 2 oz espresso, 1.5 oz vodka, 1 oz coffee liqueur, 0.5 oz simple syrup, about 1–1.5 cups ice total.

4

Blend to smooth, slushy consistency

Secure the blender lid and blend on high for 20–40 seconds, pausing to check texture after 20 seconds. You want a smooth, slushy consistency — fully combined, frothy, and pourable but not watery. If mixture is too thick, add 0.25 oz chilled espresso or 1 tablespoon water and pulse briefly. If too thin, add a few more ice cubes and pulse until desired thickness.

5

Taste and adjust

Taste a small spoonful (use a clean spoon). If not sweet enough, add up to 0.25–0.5 oz simple syrup and pulse to combine. If coffee flavor is weak, add one coffee ice cube or 0.25 oz cold espresso and pulse.

Serve & Garnish

6

Chill two coupe or martini glasses in the freezer for 5–10 minutes while blending (optional). Pour the blended frozen espresso martini into chilled glasses, dividing evenly (about 6–8 oz per serving depending on final volume).

7

Garnish each cocktail with 2–3 whole coffee beans floated on top. Optionally sprinkle a light dusting (a pinch) of cocoa powder or add a few chocolate shavings for extra aroma and presentation.

8

Serve immediately with a short straw or sip directly from the glass. Drink while cold and slushy.
