Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a rocks glass or Old Fashioned glass in the freezer or fill with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.

2

Add the awamori, Campari, Punt e Mes, sweet vermouth, and simple syrup (if you prefer slightly sweeter balance) into a mixing glass.

3

Add the orange bitters to the mixing glass.

4

Fill the mixing glass with plenty of fresh ice (about 1 cup) and stir gently with a bar spoon for 30–45 seconds until the mix is well chilled and slightly diluted (you want a satin texture and the vessel to be cold to the touch).

5

Dump the ice or water from the chilled serving glass and strain the cocktail through a julep or fine strainer into the chilled rocks glass over one large clear ice cube or a few fresh ice cubes.

Garnish & Finish

6

Take the large orange peel and hold it over the drink, skin side down. Gently express the oils by giving it a quick squeeze so the citrus oils spray over the surface of the cocktail.

7

Sweep the rim with the expressed peel, then drop the peel onto the drink as garnish.

8

Serve immediately.
