Soda Fountain Base & Carbonation

Optional Flavor Boosters & Garnishes

Method

Soda Fountain Base & Carbonation

1

Make simple syrup

Combine 1 cup sugar with 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium, stirring until sugar dissolves. Bring to a gentle simmer for 1 minute, then remove from heat and cool to room temperature (about 15–20 minutes).

2

Prepare soda concentrates

Measure the cola, lemon-lime, and orange syrup concentrates into a clean pitcher. Add the cooled simple syrup and stir to combine. This mixture is the fountain syrup blend that will be diluted with carbonated water.

3

Mix with carbonated water just before serving

To make individual servings (approx. 12–14 fl oz / 355–415 ml each), fill a glass with 1 cup (8 fl oz) carbonated water and add 2 tablespoons of the syrup blend. Stir gently to combine. For a slightly sweeter/more intense flavor, increase the syrup to 2 1/2 tablespoons. The recipe quantities provided yield about 10 cups carbonated water of soda and the listed syrup concentrates — enough to serve roughly 10–12 bottomless 12 oz glasses when refilling frequently.

Optional Flavor Boosters & Garnishes

4

Serve fountains pop style

Fill each glass halfway with ice (about 1 to 1 1/2 cups). Squeeze a lemon or lime wedge into the glass if desired, then drop the wedge in. Add an orange slice for a citrus hint. Pour the prepared soda into the glass (approx. 10–12 fl oz) made by combining carbonated water and syrup as instructed. Garnish with a maraschino cherry or a splash (about 1 teaspoon) of grenadine for color and extra sweetness.

5

Bottomless service notes

Keep the remaining carbonated water chilled and the syrup blend refrigerated. For continuous (bottomless) refills at a gathering, pre-mix small batches (per-pitcher: 1 quart carbonated water + 1/3 cup syrup blend) and keep them chilled; combine fresh carbonated water with syrup just before refilling to preserve fizziness. Re-stir or re-carbonate briefly if soda goes flat (use a soda siphon or replace with freshly chilled carbonated water).

6

Adjustments and variations

To make a single-flavor soda, use only the cola or lemon-lime or orange syrup portion and omit the others. For diet/low-calorie versions, substitute sugar simple syrup with an appropriate concentrated liquid sweetener and use diet syrup concentrates. For an extra creamy fountain pop (like a float), add 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream to the glass after pouring the soda.
