Warmed Baguette

Amuse-Bouche Presentation (optional)

Method

Warmed Baguette

1

Preheat and prepare

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). If using a toaster oven, set to the same temperature. Line a baking sheet with parchment or use a cast-iron skillet.

2

Slice the baguette

Using a serrated bread knife, slice the baguette into 1/2-inch thick diagonal slices, or cut into 4–6 inch single-serving pieces if you prefer to present a small mini-baguette for each amuse-bouche plate.

3

Brush (optional) and warm

Lightly brush the cut sides of each slice with the olive oil (optional). Arrange slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, cut side up. Warm in the preheated oven for 6–8 minutes until the interior is warmed through and the edges are lightly golden. For a slightly crisper finish, switch the oven to broil for 30–60 seconds while watching closely to avoid burning.

4

Rest briefly

Remove the baguette slices from the oven and let them rest on a rack or plate for 1 minute — they should be warm but not scorching-hot for spreading butter.

5

Plate and finish

Spread approximately 1/2 tablespoon of the sweet cream butter on each warm slice while still warm so it melts slightly into the bread. If desired, drizzle a tiny fraction of room-temperature honey over the butter (about 1/4 teaspoon per slice) and finish with a light pinch of fine sea salt to balance the sweetness. Garnish each slice with a few snips of fresh chive if using.

6

Place one warm, buttered baguette slice on each small amuse-bouche plate or on a shared board. Add a small nest of microgreens or baby arugula beside or beneath the slice for color and a fresh bite. Lightly grate the lemon zest over the buttered bread for brightness and sprinkle a few flakes of flaky finishing salt to enhance texture and flavor.

7

Serve immediately while the bread is warm so the butter is slightly melted and aromatic. Provide small tasting spoons or toothpicks if you expect guests to sample in a standing reception.
