Bloody Mary Mix

Method

Prepare Glass & Rim

1

Rim the glass

Rub the lemon wedge around the outer rim (or inner rim) of a tall Collins or highball glass. Spread the coarse salt or celery salt on a small plate and dip the rim into the salt so it adheres evenly. Set the glass aside.

Make the Bloody Mary Mix

2

In a mixing container or cocktail shaker (without ice), combine the tomato juice, 1 teaspoon prepared horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, fresh lemon juice, 4 dashes hot sauce, celery salt, freshly ground black pepper, smoked paprika, and optional 1 teaspoon pickle juice. If you like extra heat, add the additional 1/2 teaspoon horseradish. Stir or roll between two containers for 15–20 seconds to combine and slightly aerate the mix. Taste and adjust seasoning: add more hot sauce, horseradish, or lemon juice to preference.

Assemble the Cocktail

3

Fill the prepared glass with the ice (about 1 cup). Pour the 3 oz vodka over the ice.

4

Pour the prepared Bloody Mary mix over the vodka and ice. Gently stir with a bar spoon or long spoon for about 10 seconds to integrate the spirits and mix without over-diluting.

Garnish & Serve

5

Add the celery stalk and green olive on a pick. Squeeze the reserved lemon wedge over the drink if desired and drop it in as an additional garnish.

6

Serve immediately with a straw. Provide extra hot sauce and horseradish on the side so each guest can adjust heat and tang to taste.
