Brioche Toast

Method

Brioche Toast

1

Prep the bread

Bring brioche slices to room temperature for 10 minutes if chilled. Pat lightly with paper towel if surface is damp.

2

Heat the pan

Place a heavy skillet or nonstick pan over medium-low heat. Add 1 teaspoon vegetable oil or a little extra butter and swirl to coat the surface; allow to warm for 30–60 seconds.

3

Butter both sides

Spread about 1/2 tablespoon unsalted butter on each side of the brioche slices (total ~2 tablespoons for 4 slices). The butter on the exterior will help create a golden crust.

4

Toast the bread

Place the buttered slices in the warm skillet in a single layer. Cook 2–3 minutes per side, pressing lightly with a spatula and watching for deep golden-brown color. Reduce heat slightly if they are browning too quickly. Total cook time should be 4–6 minutes until edges are crisp and centers are warm.

5

Finish and season

Transfer toasted brioche to a wire rack or plate. Sprinkle a tiny pinch (about 1/8 tsp) kosher salt across the four slices to enhance flavor while still warm.

To Serve

6

If using softened butter, spread about 1/2 tablespoon on each warm slice; otherwise proceed directly to jam.

7

Generously spoon 1 tablespoon of your chosen jam onto each slice (total 4 tablespoons) and spread. Add optional fresh berries or sliced fruit to the top if desired.

8

Optional finishing: lightly dust with 1 teaspoon powdered sugar for presentation. Serve immediately while warm.
