Manhattan Cocktail
Method
Manhattan Cocktail
Measure ingredients
Measure 2 oz Rittenhouse Rye, 0.75 oz Carpano Antica sweet vermouth and 0.25 oz Amaro Nonino into a mixing glass or a large mixing tin.
Stir to dilute and chill
Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture steadily for 30β45 seconds (about 20β30 full spoon turns) until well chilled and slightly diluted. The mixture should be properly cold and slightly viscous from the dilution.
Strain
Discard the ice/water from the chilled serving glass if you used it to chill. Using a julep or hawthorne strainer (or a fine mesh if needed), strain the cocktail from the mixing glass into the chilled coupe or martini glass.
Garnish and serve
Skewer a Luxardo or brandied cherry (or drop it into the drink). Optionally add a single large clear ice cube or a chilled cherry on the side if serving in a rocks glass. Serve immediately.
Notes
Adjust the vermouth/Amaro ratio to taste β increasing Carpano Antica will make it sweeter and rounder; increasing Amaro Nonino will add herbal, bitter complexity. Use high-proof rye like Rittenhouse for a classic backbone and extra presence.
