Method
Blended Coffee Base
Prepare coffee
Brew 1 cup of strong coffee (use double-strength if possible) and let it cool to room temperature, or chill in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes. Using cooled coffee prevents excessive melting of ice and dilution.
Combine ingredients
In a blender, add the cooled brewed coffee, 1/2 cup milk, 1 cup ice cubes, 2 teaspoons granulated sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. If using flavored syrup, add 1 tablespoon now.
Blend
Secure the blender lid and blend on high for 20–40 seconds until smooth and frothy. Stop and check consistency: it should be thick and slush-like. If too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons of milk; if too thin, add 1/4 cup more ice and blend again for 10–15 seconds.
Optional Add-ins & Garnish
If you like a chocolate swirl, drizzle chocolate syrup inside the serving glass before pouring the blended coffee. Pour the blended coffee into the prepared glass.
Top with 2 tablespoons whipped cream. Drizzle additional chocolate or caramel syrup over the whipped cream if desired.
Lightly dust with 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon or cocoa. Garnish with a few whole coffee beans if desired.
Serve immediately with a straw. Stir before drinking to incorporate any syrup swirls.
