Milk Preparation

Optional flavoring / serving

Method

Milk Preparation

1

Combine

Pour 4 cups of whole milk into a clean pitcher. Add 1/2 cup cold water and 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt. The water slightly dilutes store-bought milk to mimic fresh farm milk mouthfeel; the pinch of salt enhances flavor.

2

Stir

Use a whisk or long spoon to stir the milk and water briskly for 20–30 seconds until evenly mixed and slightly frothy on the surface. If you prefer no froth, stir gently instead.

3

Chill (optional)

If the milk is not already cold, refrigerate the pitcher uncovered for at least 30 minutes to reach a refreshing temperature (about 40°F / 4–6°C). For a quick chill, add a few ice cubes and stir 1–2 minutes, then remove the cubes if you don't want diluted milk.

4

Taste and adjust

Taste a small sip and adjust seasoning or sweetness: add up to 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract if you want sweetened milk. Stir until dissolved. Add a pinch more salt only if needed.

Optional flavoring / serving

5

Serve plain or flavored

Serve chilled milk in glasses over ice if desired. For a flavored version, sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon over each glass or stir cinnamon into the pitcher. One pitcher makes about four 1-cup servings.

6

Storage: Cover leftover milk tightly and refrigerate. Consume within 3–5 days for pasteurized store-bought milk. Discard if sour or off-smelling.
