Method
Assembling the cold cereal
Select and measure
Choose 1 cup of your preferred cold cereal — rolled oats, bran flakes, cornflakes, granola, muesli, or a ready-to-eat crunchy cereal. Measure 1 cup and place it in a medium bowl.
Sweeten and season
Drizzle 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup over the cereal. Sprinkle 1/8 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon (if using) to enhance flavor. Stir gently to distribute sweetener and seasoning.
Add fresh fruit
Top the cereal with 1/2 cup sliced fresh fruit such as berries, banana, or apple. Arrange fruit evenly so each spoonful will have some.
Add nuts, seeds and dried fruit
Scatter 2 tablespoons chopped nuts or seeds and 1 tablespoon dried fruit (if using) over the bowl for texture and protein.
Optional add-ins
If desired, add 1 teaspoon nut butter, 1 teaspoon chia or flaxseed, or 2 tablespoons extra granola on top. These will increase creaminess, nutrition, and crunch — stir lightly or leave on top as a topping.
Notes and variations
For travel or packed breakfasts: place milk in a separate small bottle and keep cereal and toppings in a sealed container; combine just before eating to avoid soggy cereal.
