Method

Shrimp Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Shrimp

In a mixing bowl, combine the peeled and deveined shrimp with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Toss gently to ensure all shrimp are evenly coated. Set aside to marinate for about 15 minutes.

Breading Mixture

  1. 2

    Prepare the Breading

In one bowl, place the all-purpose flour. In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined. In a third bowl, mix the cornmeal and paprika. This will create your three-step breading station.

Frying

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking (about 350°F or 175°C).

  2. 4

    Bread the Shrimp

Take each marinated shrimp and dip it first into the flour, shaking off the excess. Then, dip it into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, coat it with the cornmeal mixture, pressing gently to adhere.

  3. 5

    Fry the Shrimp

Carefully place the breaded shrimp into the hot oil in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve

Arrange the crispy popcorn shrimp on a serving platter. Garnish with lemon wedges and serve with cocktail sauce on the side for dipping.
