Calamari

Chili-Soy Dipping Sauce

Method

Preparing the Calamari

  1. 1

    Clean the Calamari

If using whole calamari, clean and cut them into rings. Rinse under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Mix well until fully combined.

  3. 3

    Coat the Calamari

Dredge the calamari rings in the flour mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated. Shake off any excess flour.

Frying the Calamari

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep pot or skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Fry the Calamari

Carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil in batches, avoiding overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  3. 6

    Drain the Calamari

Using a slotted spoon, remove the calamari from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Preparing the Dipping Sauce

  1. 7

    Mix Sauce Ingredients

In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, chili garlic sauce, honey, lime juice, and sesame oil until well combined.

  2. 8

    Garnish (Optional)

If desired, finely chop the green onion and sprinkle it over the dipping sauce for extra flavor.

Serving

  1. 9

    Plate and Serve

Serve the crispy calamari hot with the chili-soy dipping sauce on the side.
