Method
Prepare Vanilla Simple Syrup (if not pre-made)
Make syrup
Combine 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan. Split 1 vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape seeds into the pan; add the pod. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Simmer 2 minutes, remove from heat, cover and cool. Strain out vanilla pod and store syrup in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks. Use 1/2 oz syrup per cocktail.
Build & Serve - Vanilla Cashmere (Red Wine)
Chill glass
Place a coupe or stemmed wine glass in the freezer or fill with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.
Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add 1 oz vanilla vodka, 0.5 oz orange liqueur, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz vanilla simple syrup, and 0.25 oz maple syrup. Add a handful of ice (enough to fill the shaker halfway).
Shake
Shake the mixture vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well-chilled and slightly diluted.
Strain into glass
Discard ice or water from the chilled glass. Double-strain the shaken mixture into the chilled coupe or wine glass to remove any ice shards.
Garnish
Express an orange twist over the drink to release oils, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it into the glass. Optionally float a whole star anise on top for aroma and visual appeal.
Serve
Serve immediately. Instruct guests to sip so they experience the vanilla-citrus base merging with the red wine top.
