Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Optional but recommended: place an old-fashioned glass (rocks glass) in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice and water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.

2

Measure and combine

In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker, pour 1 oz Tanqueray gin, 1 oz Campari, and 1 oz sweet vermouth.

3

Add ice and stir

Fill the mixing glass with enough ice (about 6 oz by volume, or several large cubes) and stir gently for 20–30 seconds until the mixture is well-chilled and slightly diluted (you should feel the mixing glass become very cold).

4

Prepare serving glass

If you chilled the serving glass with ice water, discard the ice/water now. Add a large clear ice cube (or fresh ice) to the old-fashioned glass.

5

Strain and finish

Using a bar strainer, strain the stirred cocktail into the prepared glass over the large ice cube.

6

Garnish

Express the oils of an orange peel over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down above the glass and giving it a firm twist so the oils spray over the surface. Rub the peel around the rim if desired, then drop the peel into the glass as garnish.

7

Serve

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to enjoy the balance of bitter, sweet, and botanical flavors.
