Pour and Serve

Method

Pour and Serve

1

Prepare glass

Select a rocks glass (old fashioned). If desired, chill the glass briefly by filling with ice water for 30–60 seconds, then discard the water and dry the glass.

2

Add ice

Place a single large ice cube or sphere in the chilled rocks glass. A large cube melts slower and dilutes the whisky less.

3

Measure and pour whisky

Measure 2 oz of J.P. Wiser's 10 Year and pour it gently over the large ice cube.

4

Optional bitters

If you prefer a slightly spiced aromatic note, add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters to the whisky and give the glass a gentle swirl (about 5–8 seconds) to integrate.

5

Optional water rinse or splash

For an opened-up palate, add a small splash (about 0.25 oz) of water or rinse the glass before pouring: swirl the water in the glass for a few seconds and discard excess. Alternatively, add the splash directly to the poured whisky to release more aromas.

6

Express the orange peel

Hold the orange peel (oil-side down) about 2–3 inches above the glass and firmly squeeze to express the oils over the surface of the whisky. Optionally, run the peel around the rim, then drop the peel into the drink as a garnish.

7

Serve

Serve immediately. Encourage the drinker to nose the whisky before sipping to appreciate the aromatic oils and any bitters notes.
