Method

Whole fruit

1

Wash and serve whole

Rinse the oranges under cool running water and gently scrub the skin with your hands or a soft brush. Pat dry with a towel. Serve whole as a simple snack.

2

Peel and snack

Using your fingers or a small knife, score the skin from top to bottom into quarters and peel away the zest and pith. Separate into natural segments and eat immediately.

3

Supreme (segment) an orange

Using a sharp paring knife, cut off both the top and bottom ends of one orange so it sits flat. Starting at the top, slice downward following the curve of the fruit to remove the peel and white pith, exposing the flesh. Hold the orange over a bowl to catch juices. Working over the bowl, slide the knife between each membrane to free each segment (supremes). Reserve any juice that collects in the bowl.

4

Dress segments

Place the supremes in a small bowl. Add 1 tsp lemon juice and 1 tsp granulated sugar (optional) to the reserved juice, stir to dissolve, then pour over the segments and gently toss. Let sit 2–3 minutes to meld flavors, then serve chilled or at room temperature.

5

Garnish

Arrange peeled segments or a whole peeled orange on a plate. Sprinkle a small pinch of sea salt flakes over the segments to enhance sweetness and top with torn mint leaves for aroma. Serve immediately.
