Method

Mixing

  1. 1

    Build the chilled base

Add gin (or vodka), dry vermouth, fresh lemon juice, elderflower liqueur, simple syrup, and orange bitters into a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup) so the liquid is well-chilled.

  2. 2

    Shake

Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and well-chilled.

  3. 3

    Strain

Double-strain the mixture (using a Hawthorne and fine mesh strainer if available) into a chilled coupe or flute, leaving space for the sparkling wine.

Finish & Serve

  1. 4

    Top with sparkle

Gently pour the chilled prosecco down the side of the glass to preserve effervescence, using about 3 oz. Stir once very gently with a bar spoon — 1 slow turn — to integrate, avoiding excessive agitation that will flatten bubbles.

  2. 5

    Garnish

Express a lemon twist over the drink to release oils, rim the glass with the twist, then drop it in. If using, lightly slap the mint sprig between your palms to release aroma and rest it on the surface.

  3. 6

Serve immediately while the cocktail is cold and the sparkling wine is lively.
