Build and stir
Add Campari, sweet vermouth, and gin to a mixing glass or cocktail shaker filled with ice. Stir gently with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full turns) until the outside of the glass is well-chilled and the drink is slightly diluted.

Strain
Strain the chilled mixture into a chilled old-fashioned glass (rocks glass) filled with fresh ice. Alternatively, serve up in a chilled coupe without ice if preferred.

Garnish and serve
Express the oils of an orange twist over the drink by holding the twist skin-side down above the glass and giving it a quick squeeze, then drop it into the drink or hang an orange slice on the rim. Serve immediately.
