Garlic Butter

Method

Garlic Butter

1

Soften Butter

If butter is chilled, let it soften at room temperature for 20–30 minutes or microwave in 5–8 second bursts until spreadable but not melted.

2

Mix Butter and Flavorings

In a medium bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, grated Parmesan (if using), lemon juice (if using), salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir thoroughly until uniformly combined and smooth. Taste and adjust salt or lemon as needed.

Bread & Assembly

3

Prepare Oven and Bread

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment for easier cleanup. Slice the baguette in half lengthwise (so you have two long halves) or cut into 1–1.5 inch thick diagonal slices keeping the base attached if making pull-apart style.

4

Brush with Olive Oil (optional step for crisper bottom)

Lightly brush the cut sides of the bread with 1 tablespoon olive oil to help the bottoms crisp and to add depth of flavor.

5

Spread Garlic Butter

Using a spatula or butter knife, spread an even layer of the prepared garlic butter over the cut surface(s) of the bread. Be generous to ensure strong garlic flavor but keep an even thickness to prevent sogginess.

6

Add Cheese (optional)

If using extra Parmesan or shredded mozzarella, sprinkle it evenly over the buttered bread halves or slices.

7

Bake

Place the prepared bread on the baking sheet, cut-side up. Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, until the butter has melted and the edges begin to turn golden. For a browned, bubbly topping, switch the oven to broil on high for 1–2 minutes—watch closely to avoid burning.

8

Slice and Serve

Remove from oven and let rest 1–2 minutes. If you baked halves, slice into serving pieces. For pull-apart style, separate slices. Garnish with a few extra chopped parsley leaves if desired and serve warm as a side.
