Housemade Bloody Mary mix and Tito's vodka, Korbel brandy, sweet cream, vanilla, and fresh nutmeg

In a pitcher or jar combine tomato juice, prepared horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, fresh lemon juice, fresh lime juice, hot sauce, salt, black pepper, and celery seed if using. Whisk or shake until thoroughly combined. Taste and adjust hot sauce, salt, or horseradish as desired. Chill or refrigerate until ready to use. This recipe yields about 16 oz; you will use 1 oz for one cocktail.

Chill a coupe or rocks glass by filling with ice and setting aside, or place in freezer for a few minutes. If serving over fresh ice, fill serving glass about halfway with fresh ice and set aside.

Prepare glass

In a cocktail shaker add 2 oz Tito's vodka, 1 oz Korbel brandy, 2 oz sweet cream, 1 tsp vanilla extract, and 1 oz of the prepared Bloody Mary mix. Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the exterior of the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosty. The shaking aerates the cream and integrates the savory notes with the spirits.

Shake

Discard ice from the chilled serving glass (if used). Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or into the prepared rocks glass over fresh ice using the shaker's strainer and a fine mesh strainer to catch any small solids for a smoother texture.

Strain and serve

Grate a small amount of fresh nutmeg over the top of the drink (start with a light dusting). If you like, add a tiny sprinkle of ground cinnamon or tuck a cinnamon stick into the glass for aroma. Serve immediately.
