Method
Grind & Measure
Measure 0.06 cups (about 10–12 g) of whole coffee beans. This yields a single 12 fl oz brewed cup at a brew ratio of approximately 1:18 (coffee:water). Adjust quantity slightly for strength preference.
Grind the beans to the appropriate consistency for your brewing method: medium-coarse for pour-over/french press, medium for drip, fine for espresso. Aim for an even grind to ensure balanced extraction.
Brew Coffee
If using pour-over
Boil filtered water and let it sit 30–45 seconds off heat (target 195–205°F / 90–96°C). Rinse paper filter, add ground coffee, bloom with 30–40 ml water for 30–45 seconds, then slowly pour remaining water in concentric circles until you reach 12 fl oz total. Total brew time ~2:30–3:30 minutes.
If using drip machine
Place ground coffee in the machine's basket, pour 12 fl oz filtered water into the reservoir, and brew according to the machine's instructions until complete.
If using French press
Add grounds to the carafe, pour 12 fl oz hot water (195–205°F), stir gently, cover with plunger up and steep 4 minutes, then press slowly and serve.
If using espresso
Dose and tamp to produce a single or double shot according to your machine (this recipe's coffee weight is for brewed coffee; for espresso use standard espresso dosing and extract accordingly), then combine with additional hot water to make an Americano if desired.
Milk & Sweeten
While coffee brews, warm or steam 0.5 cup milk. For steaming: stretch and steam to about 150–155°F (65–68°C) to create microfoam. For stovetop: gently warm in a small saucepan until steaming but not boiling, then froth with a handheld frother if desired.
Add 1 tsp simple syrup or sugar to the brewed coffee and stir to dissolve. Add 1/4 tsp vanilla extract and 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon if using, stirring to combine.
Pour warmed/steamed milk into the coffee gently to create a layered look or mix fully for a latte. Spoon foam on top if present.
Garnish & Serve
Lightly dust the top with 1/4 tsp cocoa powder or grated chocolate if desired. Place 2–3 whole coffee beans on the surface as a garnish or on the saucer.
Serve immediately in a pre-warmed cup. Enjoy hot alongside breakfast items in the Coffee Box.
