Cold Brew Concentrate

Method

Cold Brew Concentrate

1

Combine coffee and water

Add 1 cup coarsely ground medium‑roast coffee to the large jar or pitcher. Pour 4 cups cold filtered water over the grounds, ensuring all grounds are saturated. Gently stir for 10–15 seconds to make sure there are no dry pockets.

2

Steep

Cover the jar with a lid or plastic wrap and let the mixture steep at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 16–20 hours. Steeping for 16 hours yields a balanced concentrate; 20 hours yields a slightly stronger, fuller extraction.

3

Strain

After steeping, place the fine mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth (or use a very fine sieve) over the second container. Slowly pour the coffee–water mixture through the sieve to separate the grounds. If needed, pour the filtered concentrate through the sieve a second time to remove fines.

4

Optional fine filtration

For a cleaner cup, fold the cheesecloth and strain the concentrate a second time or use a coffee filter. This removes micro‑particles that can cause grit or overfiltration.

5

Store

Seal the container with the cold brew concentrate and refrigerate. Concentrate will keep well for up to 10 days; optimal freshness for 4–7 days.

To Serve (per 8 fl oz serving)

6

Fill a glass with 1 cup ice.

7

Pour 1 cup cold brew concentrate over the ice, then add 1 cup cold water or milk to dilute to taste (typical serving is 1:1). Adjust dilution depending on desired strength.

8

Stir in simple syrup or sweetener (about 1 tablespoon) if desired. Taste and adjust sweetener or milk.

9

Serve immediately. Store any unused concentrate refrigerated and use within 10 days.
