Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass and garnish

Place a large ice cube or several large ice cubes into a chilled lowball (Old Fashioned) glass. Have one Luxardo cherry and one wide strip of orange zest ready.

  2. 2

    Build the cocktail

In a mixing glass (or directly in the serving glass), add 0.25 oz simple or Demerara syrup, 3 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters (if using).

  3. 3

    Add bourbon and stir

Pour 2 oz bourbon into the mixing glass with the syrup and bitters. Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir gently for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 full turns) until well chilled and slightly diluted (~15–25% dilution). If built directly in the serving glass, stir with the ice in the serving glass until chilled.

  4. 4

    Strain and garnish

If you mixed in a separate glass, strain the cocktail over the prepared large ice cube(s) in the Old Fashioned glass. If you mixed in the serving glass, no transfer is necessary.

  5. 5

    Express the orange oil

Hold the orange zest over the glass, skin side down, and give it a sharp twist to release the oils onto the drink. Optionally rub the peel around the rim for extra aroma, then drop the peel into the glass.

  6. 6

    Finish with cherry

Garnish by placing one Luxardo cherry on a pick or directly into the glass alongside the orange peel. Serve immediately.
