Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Chill a coupe or martini glass by filling it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Rinse glass (absinthe)

Discard the ice water from the chilled glass. Pour 0.25 tsp absinthe into the glass, tilt and swirl to coat the bowl, then discard any excess (or keep a thin coat). Set the glass aside.

  3. 3

    Build and shake

In a cocktail shaker, combine 1 oz gin, 1 oz Cointreau, 1 oz Lillet Blanc, and 1 oz fresh lemon juice. Add ice (about 1 cup or enough to fill the shaker). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for about 12–15 seconds, until the shaker is very cold and well-chilled.

  4. 4

    Double strain and serve

Double-strain the contents of the shaker into the absinthe-rinsed chilled glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove ice shards and pulp for a silky texture.

  5. 5

    Garnish

Express a lemon twist over the surface to release oils, rim the glass with the twist and drop it into the cocktail (or discard, per preference).

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve immediately. The cocktail yields a crisp, bright balance of citrus, aromatics from the absinthe rinse, and floral/bruised-wine notes from the Lillet Blanc.
