Cocktail
Optional Sparkle (for a longer version)
Method
Prepare Glass
Rim the glass
Pour the coarse salt onto a small plate. Rub the cut side of a grapefruit wheel or lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or coupe glass to moisten, then dip the rim into the salt to coat evenly. Set the glass aside.
Make the Cocktail
Combine and chill
In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz fresh grapefruit juice, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz orange liqueur, 0.5 oz agave syrup, and a generous handful of ice (about 1 cup).
Shake
Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and well-chilled. This both dilutes and integrates the ingredients.
Strain
Double-strain (using the shaker’s strainer and a fine mesh strainer if available) into the prepared salt-rimmed glass over fresh ice, or serve straight up in the chilled coupe glass if preferred.
Optional finish
If you prefer a slightly longer, spritzed version, top the cocktail with 2 oz club soda gently to preserve effervescence and stir once very lightly.
Garnish
Express the oils of a grapefruit twist over the drink by pinching the twist skin-side down above the surface, then drop the twist or a thin grapefruit wheel into/onto the glass as garnish.
Serve
Serve immediately while cold. Recommend presenting with a small napkin; this drink balances bright citrus and agave sweetness with the backbone of tequila—sip slowly to enjoy the layered flavors.
