Method
Prepare Glass & Ice
Chill and fill
Place a tall glass in the freezer for 5 minutes to chill (optional). Add 1 cup of cubed ice to the glass to keep the soda cold and reduce dilution.
Combine Base Sodas
Pour 2 cups cola (or root beer) and 1 cup club soda into a measuring pitcher. Stir gently once to combine — you want to keep as much carbonation as possible.
Add Fruit & Citrus
Add 2 tablespoons strawberry purée (or lightly muddled berries) to the glass with ice. Pour in 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice and 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice. These add brightness that balances the sweetness.
Layer Flavor Boosters
Drizzle 1 tablespoon grenadine (or cherry syrup) into the glass — it will sink slightly and create a layered look. If you want a coffee twist, add 1 teaspoon coffee syrup or a splash (about 1 teaspoon) cold-brew concentrate at this stage.
Add Cream & Sweetness
Stir in 1 tablespoon vanilla syrup to the combined sodas. Then slowly pour 4 tablespoons half-and-half (or heavy cream) over the back of a spoon into the glass to create a creamy float that blends gradually with the soda. If you prefer fully mixed, stir gently until homogeneous.
Combine & Finish
Pour the soda mixture from the pitcher into the prepared glass over the layered ingredients. Stir once gently with a long spoon to combine, taking care not to flatten the carbonation.
Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge, a maraschino cherry, and a mint sprig if using. Serve immediately with a straw and/or long spoon so the drinker can re-stir to their preferred creaminess.
