Method
Cake Preparation
- 1
Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2
Mix dry ingredients
In a medium bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- 3
Cream butter and sugar
In a large bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- 4
Add eggs
Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- 5
- 6
Combine all mixtures
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the wet ingredients, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- 7
Bake the cakes
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 8
Cool the cakes
Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting Preparation
- 9
Make the frosting
In a large bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until combined.
- 10
Add vanilla and bourbon
Add the vanilla extract, bourbon, and whole milk, and continue to beat the mixture on medium speed until fluffy and smooth.
- 11
Frost the cake
Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
- 12
Chill and serve
Chill the frosted cake in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving to set the frosting.
