Pizza Dough and Toppings
Method
Preparation and Baking
Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add the olive oil, salt, and flour gradually, mixing until a dough forms.
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.
Shape the Pizza
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet or a pizza peel if using a stone.
Add Toppings
Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Tear the mozzarella into pieces and scatter on top, followed by fresh basil leaves. Season with black pepper.
Bake the Pizza
Carefully transfer the pizza to the hot oven (or onto the pizza stone) and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, then slice and serve hot, garnished with additional fresh basil if desired.
