Method
Prepare Glass
- 1
Rim (optional smoked salt)
If using smoked salt rim, rub a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass (or coupe) and dip the rim lightly into a shallow plate with smoked salt. Set the glass aside and add fresh ice (about 1 cup) if serving on the rocks; leave empty if serving straight up.
Mix Cocktail
- 2
Add 2 oz tequila blanco, 0.75 oz Grand Marnier, 1 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz agave syrup into a cocktail shaker.
- 3
Fill the shaker with about 6 ice cubes. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds, until the shaker is very cold and diluted slightly.
- 4
Strain the cocktail through a fine mesh strainer (or the shaker strainer) into the prepared glass: over fresh ice if you rimmed the glass and want it on the rocks, or straight into a chilled coupe/rocks glass if serving up.
Optional — Add Smoke
- 5
For a smoked aroma: place the finished cocktail under a small cloche or mixing glass and introduce smoke from a smoking gun (applewood or oak works well) for 10–20 seconds, then remove the cloche and serve. Alternatively, flame an orange twist briefly over the drink and drop it in to impart a light charred orange scent.
Garnish & Serve
- 6
Garnish with a fresh lime wheel or wedge on the rim. If you used an orange twist flame, place the twist on the glass as garnish. Serve immediately.
