Banana Toast Base

Preparation

Prepare Toast

1. Heat pan and butter bread

Place a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat. While it heats, spread about 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter on one side of each Texas toast slice. Place slices butter-side-down in the skillet. Lower heat to medium-low to ensure even browning without burning. Cook for 3–4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and crisp.

2. Butter and flip

Spread the remaining 1 tablespoon butter on the top (un-toasted) side, flip the bread and cook 2–3 minutes more until both sides are golden and the centers are warmed through. Remove the toast to a cutting board.

Assemble Toppings

3. Spread Nutella

While the toast is still warm, evenly spread 2 tablespoons of Nutella on each slice (about 4 tablespoons total). Warm toast helps Nutella become more spreadable.

4. Slice banana

Peel the banana and slice it on the bias into 1/4-inch thick rounds. For a presentation alternative, slice lengthwise into three strips.

5. Arrange banana and honey

Place the banana slices evenly over the Nutella-covered toast, layering to cover most of the surface. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of honey over each slice (about 2 tablespoons total), allowing honey to run into crevices between banana pieces.

Finish and Serve

6. Dust with powdered sugar

Lightly dust the assembled toasts with powdered sugar using a fine-mesh sieve (about 1 tablespoon total) for a delicate coating. If desired, sprinkle the optional chopped toasted hazelnuts or pecans on top for crunch.

7. Optional seasoning and serve

If you like a flavor contrast, sprinkle a pinch (about 1/4 teaspoon) of flaky sea salt across the two toasts. Cut each slice in half if serving two portions. Serve immediately while toast is warm and Nutella is soft.
