Collagen Drink Base

Method

Collagen Drink Base

1

Warm the water

Heat 8 oz (about 240 ml) of filtered water until warm but not boiling (approximately 120–140°F / 50–60°C). You can warm on the stovetop or in the microwave for 30–45 seconds depending on your appliance.

2

Dissolve collagen

Add 2 tablespoons of grass-fed bovine collagen powder to a pre-warmed mug or heatproof container. Pour about 2–3 tablespoons of the warm water first and stir to make a smooth paste with no lumps, then add the remaining warm water while stirring continuously to fully dissolve the powder.

3

Add acid and sweetener

Stir in 1 teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice (this can help flavor and solubility) and 1 teaspoon raw honey or maple syrup if you want sweetness. Taste and adjust the sweetener to taste.

4

Optional spice

If desired, add 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon and whisk briefly to combine. Cinnamon pairs well with lemon and honey and adds warming flavor.

Optional Enrichments

5

Make creamy (optional)

For a creamier beverage, warm 4 oz of unsweetened almond milk (or milk of choice) separately until steaming but not boiling, then add it to the dissolved collagen mixture and stir until homogenous.

6

Add fats or flavor extracts (optional)

If using, stir in 1 teaspoon MCT oil or coconut oil and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. If adding turmeric for anti-inflammatory benefit, whisk in 1 teaspoon ground turmeric and a pinch of black pepper to aid absorption.

7

Blend for froth (optional)

For a frothy texture, transfer the prepared mixture to a small blender or use an immersion frother and blend 10–20 seconds until lightly aerated. Pour back into the mug and enjoy.
