Method

Setup & Mixing Base

1

Chill and prepare

Chill carbonated water and syrups in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving. Fill the serving dispenser or pitcher with ice to keep drinks cold during service.

2

Mix syrups and carbonated water

For each 12-oz serving, combine 2 tablespoons (approx. 0.25 cup per 2 liters scaled proportionally) of chosen syrup concentrate with 12 fl oz (355 ml) carbonated water. If preparing a batch: in a large chilled pitcher or dispenser, pour 2 liters carbonated water and add 1 cup total syrup if you want a stronger, soda-fountain style concentrate — adjust ratios to taste. Stir gently once to incorporate, avoiding excessive agitation so carbonation is retained.

3

Offer multiple flavors

Prepare separate pitchers or labelled dispenser lines for each syrup flavor (cola, lemon-lime, root beer, orange, ginger-ale). Keep carbonated water chilled and connect to each syrup line when using a soda fountain. For self-serve, place syrups and carbonated water in easy-to-reach, labelled containers or dispensers.

Serving & Garnishes

4

Fill a 12-16 oz serving cup 3/4 full with cubed ice (about 1 to 1.5 cups).

5

Select the desired flavor dispenser or pitcher. Pour 12-14 oz of the mixed soda into the cup over ice, leaving a small headspace to preserve carbonation.

6

Add optional garnishes as desired: 1 lemon or lime slice and a maraschino cherry for classic presentation, or a mint sprig for ginger-ale and lemon-lime drinks.

7

For specialty variations, add optional add-ins to taste: 1-2 tsp grenadine for a cherry-rose hue and sweeter profile, 1-2 tbsp simple syrup for extra sweetness, or 1-2 oz fruit puree for a flavored soda. Stir gently to combine.

8

Provide straws and lids for self-serve; offer napkins and signage indicating free refills and flavor options.

Maintenance During Service

9

Keep syrup containers and carbonated water refrigerated or over ice and replace small batches frequently to maintain freshness. Stir pitcher batches gently before refilling dispensers to ensure consistent flavor.

10

If using a soda fountain system, periodically purge lines according to manufacturer instructions and taste-check each flavor every 30–60 minutes to ensure correct syrup-to-carbonation ratio.
