Dough & Base

Method

Dough & Base

1

Prepare oven and dough

Preheat the oven to 500°F (260°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it on the center rack while preheating. Lightly dust a pizza peel or large baking sheet with the all-purpose flour. On a lightly floured surface, stretch or roll the 1 lb pizza dough into a 12–14 inch round, leaving a slightly thicker edge for the crust. Brush the surface and the outer rim lightly with 1 tablespoon olive oil.

Sauce

2

In a small bowl combine 1 cup tomato pizza sauce with 1 tsp dried oregano, 1 tsp dried basil, 1 tsp garlic powder and 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes. Stir until evenly mixed. Spoon the sauce onto the oiled dough, spreading to within 1/2 inch of the edge in an even layer (about 3/4 to 1 cup of sauce).

Cheese

3

Distribute 3 cups shredded mozzarella evenly over the sauced dough, leaving the crust clear. Sprinkle 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan over the mozzarella for flavor and browning.

Meats (Six)

4

Prepare each meat before assembling so they are ready to go: cook ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat until browned; drain excess fat and season lightly with 1/4 tsp salt and 1/8 tsp black pepper. Cook Italian sausage (remove casings if necessary) and crumble until cooked through. Cook bacon until crisp and chop into bite-sized pieces. If deli ham or salami are cold, chop or slice as desired. Assemble meats evenly across the cheese layer: distribute pepperoni, crumbled sausage, chopped ham, chopped crispy bacon, cooked seasoned ground beef and salami so the toppings cover the pizza surface evenly. Aim for roughly the listed quantities so each slice has a mix of meats.

Bake & Finish

5

Carefully transfer the assembled pizza to the preheated pizza stone or place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake at 500°F (260°C) for 10–14 minutes, rotating once after 6–8 minutes if your oven bakes unevenly, until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.

6

Remove the pizza from the oven and let rest for 3–5 minutes. Sprinkle 1/2 tsp dried oregano and optional 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper over the top. Tear fresh basil leaves and scatter over the pizza if using. Slice into 8 equal slices and serve hot.
