Classic Coca‑Cola (single serving)

Method

Classic Coca‑Cola (single serving)

1

Chill a highball or cola glass in the freezer for 10–15 minutes if desired.

2

Fill the glass with 6 ice cubes.

3

Pour 12 fl oz (one can or a standard bottle serving) of chilled Coca‑Cola over the ice.

4

Garnish with a lemon wedge on the rim and a sprig of mint if using. Serve immediately.

Homemade cola syrup (optional)

5

Make the sugar base

Combine 2 cups water, 2 cups granulated sugar and 1 cup brown sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir until sugars dissolve and mixture comes to a gentle simmer.

6

Add flavorings

Add citrus zests (lime, lemon, orange), 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg, the optional lavender or coriander, sliced ginger and 2 tbsp caramel color or burnt sugar syrup to the pan. Simmer gently for 10 minutes to infuse.

7

Finish and cool

Remove from heat, stir in 1 tsp vanilla extract and 1 tsp white vinegar. Let the syrup cool to room temperature, then strain through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean jar to remove solids. Refrigerate up to 2 weeks.

8

Mixing the soda

To serve homemade cola: fill a glass with ice, add 2–3 tbsp of cola syrup, then top with 12 fl oz chilled carbonated water (or adjust syrup to taste). Garnish with citrus if desired.
