Method
Cocktail Base
- 1
Prepare glass (optional)
If you prefer a rimmed glass, rub an orange wedge around the rim of a rocks or coupe glass and dip into coarse salt or sugar (about 1 teaspoon). Set glass aside to chill.
- 2
Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice.
- 3
Add 2 oz tequila, 3 oz fresh orange juice, 0.5 oz sweet vermouth, 0.5 oz orange liqueur, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup into the shaker.
- 4
Add 2 dashes of orange bitters to the shaker.
- 5
Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is cold to the touch and the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted.
Finish & Garnish
- 6
If serving straight up: double-strain the cocktail into the prepared chilled coupe or rocks glass to remove ice shards and pulp. If serving on the rocks: fill a rocks glass with fresh ice and strain over it.
- 7
Top with about 1 oz sparkling water if you want a lighter, effervescent finish (optional).
- 8
Garnish with an orange wheel or a long orange twist. Express the oils from the twist over the drink before dropping it in.
- 9
Serve immediately.
