BOTTLED BEER

Method

BOTTLED BEER

  1. 1

    Chill bottle

If the beer is not already chilled, place the bottle in a refrigerator for at least 2–3 hours or in an ice bucket for 20–30 minutes until it reaches about 38–45°F (3–7°C). Chilling improves carbonation and flavor for best drinking experience.

  2. 2

    Prepare glass (optional)

If you prefer to serve in a glass, chill a clean pilsner or pint glass in the freezer for 10–15 minutes or fill it briefly with ice water and then discard the ice water before pouring. A chilled glass helps maintain beer temperature and head retention.

  3. 3

    Open bottle

Hold the bottle firmly at the base and remove the cap with a bottle opener. Pouring directly from the bottle is acceptable if no glass is used.

  4. 4

    Pour (optional)

Tilt the chilled glass to 45 degrees and pour the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale slowly down the side. When the glass is about three-quarters full, tilt upright and finish pouring to create a 1/2–1 inch (1–2 cm) head. This brings out the aroma and balances carbonation.

  5. 5

    Add garnish (optional)

If desired, serve with a lime or lemon wedge on the rim for a small citrus aroma. Do not squeeze into the beer unless you want a citrusy flavor change—this is optional and not traditional for a pale ale.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve immediately while cold. If using ice, avoid adding ice directly to the beer as it will dilute flavor; use an ice bucket to keep the bottle cold instead.
