Cocktail

Method

Preparation

1

Chill glass

Place a rocks glass (or coupe if you prefer) in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.

2

Measure

Measure 2 oz Tanqueray No. Ten, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.25 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup into a cocktail shaker.

3

Add ice

Add about 1 cup of ice to the shaker, enough to nearly fill it and chill the contents quickly.

4

Dry shake (optional for texture)

If you want a slightly silkier mouthfeel, briefly 'dry shake' (shake without ice) for 5–7 seconds, then add ice. This step is optional but helps integrate the citrus and syrup.

Mixing

5

Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker becomes cold and slightly frosted. Proper shaking chills, dilutes, and aerates the cocktail for balance.

6

Discard the ice or water used to chill the serving glass. Strain the cocktail through a fine mesh strainer (or Hawthorne strainer) into the chilled rocks glass over fresh serving ice (a single large cube or several medium cubes).

Garnish & serve

7

Express the oils of a lemon peel or thin wheel over the drink: hold the peel skin-side down above the glass and give it a quick twist to release the citrus oils, then rub the peel around the rim and drop it in as a garnish.

8

Optional: run a grapefruit peel around the rim as well for an extra bright floral note, or float a thin lemon wheel on top. Serve immediately.
